The Gauss distribution emerges in many situations in a natural way. On the other hand, it is usually presented in terms of a formal apparatus which tends to hide its simple origin. In this applet, the "central limit theorem" (which essentially states the naturality of the Gauss distrubution) is illustrated in terms of a random process which may easily be understood. As a by-product, the fluctuations appearing may be understood in terms of the "square root of N" estimates well-known in statistics. The applet is started from the red button in its own window. |
